CAEN, France (AFP) - Former US secretary of state
Colin Powell has picked up a French literary award for his 1995 autobiography, "My American Journey".
A jury headed by former French president Valery Giscard d'Estaing gave the Alexis de Tocqueville prize -- named after a 19th century French aristocrat who wrote an influential political work on the United States -- to Powell on Saturday.
Powell is to be handed the honour in a ceremony in Tocqueville's chateau in Normandy in June next year. His book tells of his life as a soldier in Vietnam, a senior general and on becoming secretary of state.
